Some Helpful Tips In Selecting Your Photo...
Keep in mind that Snapshot Sketches were designed to be fun, whimsical and unique stylizations of your photo. If you are looking for a photo-realistic rendering of your photo, Snapshot Sketches might not be the way you want to go. Below are some tips to keep in mind when selecting photos to use for your Snapshot Sketch.
1)Choose photos that have candid poses versus staged.
Portrait studio photos or school photos are often static and lack the energy of something more candid, relaxed and real-life. For example: the most beautiful Snapshot Sketch might come from a photo of your child in motion, playing on the playground, etc.
2)“Artistic license” fixes bad photos!
The beauty of art, is that gives you the “license” to slightly alter things for a better composition. Red eyes? Strangers wandering in the background of your photo? Sun glare? Blurriness? Don’t worry, we can fix those things in your sketch! We wave our “artistic license” wand in Snapshot Sketches in order to create a truly magical work of art.
3)Don’t rule out black & white photos.
Black and white photos can be converted into colored Snapshot Sketches. However, you’ll just need to send info regarding basic coloring of your subject matter so that we can add color.
4)Consider unique croppings:
Sometimes a photo just need to be cropped a little closer to get a more effective composition. We often zoom in a little to get a little more emotion or detail without loosing the original highlights of your photo.
5)Limit the subject matter:
Snapshot Sketches start to loose their effectiveness once they get up to 4+ people or pets. If you have a large family reunion photo with lots of people, it may be hard to sketch out all of the people clearly. So try to limit your photos to less than 5 people/pets to get the most out of your photo.
6)Have fun!
Have a photo of your kids with frosting all over their faces, or all dirty and muddy? Real-life photos like this make the most magical Snapshot Sketches. Don’t be too serious, have fun!
